Facebook makes saving other people's videos frustrating. The platform lets you "Save" a post — but that's just bookmarking it inside Facebook. It doesn't download the video to your Camera Roll or Files app. This guide shows you how to actually get the video file onto your iPhone, without installing any app.
What You'll Need
- An iPhone running iOS 15 or later (works on all modern iPhones)
- Safari browser (built-in — no download needed)
- The Facebook video URL (public videos only)
How to Get the Facebook Video URL on iPhone
This is the step most guides skip. Here's exactly how to get the shareable link:
- Open the Facebook app (or Safari, either works) and find the video you want to save.
- Tap the three dots ⋯ in the top right corner of the post.
- Tap Copy link. The URL is now in your iPhone clipboard.
Alternatively: If you're watching the video in Safari already, just copy the URL from the address bar directly.
How to Download the Facebook Video
- Open Safari on your iPhone and go to sdownloader.online.
- Tap the input field and paste the Facebook video URL (tap and hold → Paste).
- Tap Download.
- A 5-second ad appears — wait for it, then tap Close & Download.
- A quality selection screen appears. Tap HD or SD depending on your preference.
- The video file starts loading. In Safari, you'll see a download progress indicator in the top-right address bar area.
- Tap the download icon (↓ arrow) in Safari's address bar to open the Downloads panel, then tap the file to play it or tap the share icon to save to your Photos app.
Important: Only Public Facebook Videos Work
SDOWNLOADER can only download videos that are set to Public visibility on Facebook. Videos shared with "Friends only" or from private profiles cannot be downloaded — they are not accessible to anyone without a Facebook login and the appropriate friend connection.
Facebook Reels and Facebook Watch videos set to Public are both supported.
What About Facebook Reels on iPhone?
Facebook Reels work identically to regular Facebook videos with SDOWNLOADER. Open the Reel in Safari (not the Facebook app), copy the URL, paste it into sdownloader.online, and download. The Reel saves as an MP4 file to your iPhone.
Why Not Use the Facebook App's Built-In Save?
Facebook's "Save" button bookmarks the video inside the Facebook app — it does not download the video file to your device. If Facebook removes the post, your "saved" video disappears. Downloading the actual file to your Camera Roll gives you a permanent copy you can watch offline, share to Messages, or import into video editing apps like iMovie.
Personal Use Only
Please only download public Facebook videos for personal, offline viewing. Redistributing, re-uploading, or using downloaded content commercially may violate Meta's Terms of Service and copyright law. Always respect original creators.
